This is part of my Pop Music in the ‘80s series.

A New Era in Music
"Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll."

Those six words launched MTV, forever changing how music was consumed, promoted, and experienced. No longer was music solely an auditory experience. It was now a fully visual fully stereophonic spectacle. The music video created a new breed of pop star, where image and style became as important as sound.

Throughout the 1980s, MTV reshaped the music industry. It influenced not only what people listened to but how they dressed, how they danced, and even how they spoke.
